Business skills

Do you know what you have to offer to your future employer?

Identifying your selling points

When you choose to be a doctor, an accountant, a builder, or a gardener there is some reason why you select that profession over another-the person has an expertise you want. You may have heard the doctor "has good rapport with patients," or is an "excellent diagnostician "the accountant may be known for tacking complex assignments" the builder for doing "on time" work and the gardener for his or her splendid results.
Whatever the reason you've been to them, each had a strength – a "calling card" – that brought you there

People who land good jobs have taken the time to create a calling card for themselves – they've thought about their past achievement, and know the Business skills at which they excel.
In some cases, the accomplishment you will write down may not be directly applicable to a job, but the Business skills you used will be. For example, planning and arranging a family trip isn't exactly something you'd write on your Professional resume, but there are many Business skills involved in it : researching (tickets, hotels, etc.), logistics (when can you go, where can you go in that period of time),scheduling (the itinerary), budgeting (getting the best fares and deals), and so forth.

While you can may not have enjoyed the logistics and scheduling you may be very proud of the special deals you got on plane fares and hotel rates, and this Business skills is something you may want to highlight as you begin your job search.

Write down five things you’re really good at or things you enjoy that don't necessarily have to do with work you've done (good with children, excellent craftsperson, gardening or party planning Business skills, etc.).
